What a Week!

This was a crazy week. On Monday we had swimming class, yes swimming class. It turns out that we have to teach swimming so Joanna got a beginner group and I got an advanced group. Each has its benefits because the beginners are just starting to get used to the water while the advanced group can do almost everything independently. I had one student challenge me to one length of the pool so I thought why not. Well, he beat me. I guess I'm not a young as I used to be. After we got back from the pool, my sixth graders had to lead an activity with the younger grades. They had to take a story in Japanese and translate it into English. Then they had to divide it into six parts and make a storybook. They worked on it for a couple of weeks and led the school on Monday. By the afternoon they were dead tired but did a great job. On Thursday I went with my sixth graders to Kamakura which is about an hour outside of Tokyo and has a lot of history. On the way there at a rest stop, one of my boys punched one of my girls in the face. Then when we got to the first temple, the group I was assigned to ran off, literally. I was not happy. It was hot and muggy and I got lost a couple of times. Luckily, my Japanese teaching partners were able to point me in the right direction. I was able to do a little geocaching since I was just supervising. After our last stop, we had a two and a half hour bus ride home and I decided that I'd better text Joanna and let her know that we were on our way back and I couldn't find my cell phone. I checked my pockets and I went through my backpack about ten times but still couldn't find it. Yep, I lost my cell phone. After I got back Joanna called it and somebody answered and it was a worker from the last place we visited. They were very nice and shipped it back to me and it came yesterday. All I had to do was pay for the postage which I gladly did. What a long week!
