I was going through some older photos and found this one of Rachel and I before she left for college. Who are those nuts photobombing in the background?

A Real Happy Hour

We went out to dinner on Saturday night and I ordered a beer. It came with a happy face on it. A real happy hour!

Only in Japan Episode I

There are some things in Japan that are a hassle such as hanging up laundry. Click on the link to watch and follow the way I live as a foreigner in Japan and some situations that I have to go through. Thank you. If you like it, give it a like and maybe share it on Facebook.

Freaky Mannequins

This weekend Joanna took me shopping to a city called Fujinomiya where they have a nice mall. We ate at Subway for lunch and it was pretty good. We were clothes shopping and I noticed that the mannequins were kind of freaky looking. I looked closer and noticed that they had weird faces on them.

Tropical Storm...Typhoon...?

Well, we knew a tropical storm was headed our way and was supposed to arrive here on Friday. It isn't strong enough to be classified as a typhoon (hurricane for those of you in the States) so we figured we'd just get a lot of wind and rain. On our way home today, we got a text from Alex saying that he was already home and that they were sent home because of the typhoon. Wait...it's only Wednesday and it is supposed to be here on Friday...and we thought it was only a tropical storm. He said that all the clubs at school were canceled and everybody was sent home. Sure enough, while we were on the bus we saw some of the teachers walking to the train station. It is strange because we are actually part of the same school system and we didn't hear anything at the elementary school. It's now almost 10 PM and all we've have so far is a little rain. Strange.

This is the projected direction of the storm and we are located in the upper left corner of the biggest circle. We are the smaller peninsula.

Now Those Are Expensive Cherries!

We found these cherries in the store awhile ago. They are about $58 for a box of cherries! Wow! Fruit is definitely expensive here in Japan!

Ikebana

So, my new Culture Club I do with the students is Ikebana, flower arrangement.   It is so serene and informational,  I never knew Math was used for arranging flowers.  Flowers are arranged at 45 degrees and cut in thirds or halves of the center flower.  It has been a good change from my pottery club last year.  It is a quiet atmosphere and below is my latest arrangement that I leave at our school entrance.  The long flowers are part of the scallion family.  More to come....

Huh?

Okay, I just don't get this one. Our local electronics/appliance store that we go to has this signage on the outside of the building. I don't get what my JUST is!

Alex's Sinus Infection

Alex had a cold that turned into a sinus infection. In Japan, they sure have some interesting ways of treating illnesses.

Rachel's Last Race in Japan!

Right before we left we had our Sports Day and as we were leaving at the end, some of the teachers decided to have their own race. They asked Alex to join but his leg has been bothering him so Rachel volunteered to run.
